Why Should You Choose IsoForensics Inc.?

The IsoForensics’ team has more than 100 years of combined experience in the applications of stable isotope analysis. The company’s employees have diverse expertise—including biology, chemistry, ecology, and geology—and their research interests span an extensive range of topics.

Employees at IsoForensics actively contribute research to the peer-reviewed literature. Employees also contribute to numerous scientific conferences and tradeshows. In addition, IsoForensics is a member of the Forensics Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (FIRMS) Network.  Our team includes the only FIRMS Approved Forensics Practitioners in North America.

IsoForensics maintains strong working relationships with both academic and industry professionals, including ongoing collaborations with researchers at the University of Utah.

At IsoForensics, we strive to provide clients with the highest-quality combination of data analysis and interpretation. Employees are well known within the scientific community for their significant and pioneering work on the forensic applications of stable isotope analysis to answer a variety of questions. For example, IsoForensics has been an innovator in the spatial applications of isotopic information (e.g., isotopic landscapes or isoscapes) for region-of-origin investigations. You can learn more about the services we offer here.

Data Quality Management – Data quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) are of the utmost importance to the firm. As such, IsoForensics maintains a Quality Assurance Management Plan (QAMP) that outlines the steps required to implement and assess the effectiveness of the company’s QA/QC operations. All employees adhere to the QAMP during sample preparation and analysis.

External Testing – IsoForensics is an active member of the stable isotope analysis community and, as a result, we actively participate in round robin, inter-laboratory comparisons and proficiency tests. These comparisons and tests provide an unbiased confirmation of our ability to produce high-quality isotope ratio data.

Reference Materials – We use a defined sequence of primary and secondary laboratory reference materials during all stable isotope analyses. Laboratory reference materials have been created at IsoForensics and calibrated to internationally certified reference materials from the USGS (, NIST (, and the IAEA ( Primary laboratory reference materials are used to normalize measured isotope ratios to international isotope scales, while secondary laboratory reference materials are used for QA/QC of sample analysis and data normalization.

Sample and Data Security – IsoForensics maintains secure storage facilities for both samples and data. As part of our service offerings, we can provide chain-of custody documentation. A blank chain-of-custody form is available here.

Standard Operating Procedures – IsoForensics maintains a comprehensive collection of standard operating procedures (SOPs) that have been published and reviewed by the scientific community. Our SOPs are available upon request.
