Data Quality Management – Data quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) are of the utmost importance to the firm. As such, IsoForensics maintains a Quality Assurance Management Plan (QAMP) that outlines the steps required to implement and assess the effectiveness of the company’s QA/QC operations. All employees adhere to the QAMP during sample preparation and analysis.
External Testing – IsoForensics is an active member of the stable isotope analysis community and, as a result, we actively participate in round robin, inter-laboratory comparisons and proficiency tests. These comparisons and tests provide an unbiased confirmation of our ability to produce high-quality isotope ratio data.
Reference Materials – We use a defined sequence of primary and secondary laboratory reference materials during all stable isotope analyses. Laboratory reference materials have been created at IsoForensics and calibrated to internationally certified reference materials from the USGS (http://isotopes.usgs.gov/lab/referencematerials.html), NIST (http://www.nist.gov/srm/), and the IAEA (http://nucleus.iaea.org/rpst/ReferenceProducts/ReferenceMaterials/Stable_Isotopes/index.htm). Primary laboratory reference materials are used to normalize measured isotope ratios to international isotope scales, while secondary laboratory reference materials are used for QA/QC of sample analysis and data normalization.
Sample and Data Security – IsoForensics maintains secure storage facilities for both samples and data. As part of our service offerings, we can provide chain-of custody documentation. A blank chain-of-custody form is available here.
Standard Operating Procedures – IsoForensics maintains a comprehensive collection of standard operating procedures (SOPs) that have been published and reviewed by the scientific community. Our SOPs are available upon request.
